A reassuring trip to hospital

Yesterday morning at about 4 30 I woke up with a pain above the pubic bone that didn’t go away for most of the day – so I rang michael who came home from work at about 3 30pm and we called the hospital. Seeing as my constant pain didn’t really sound like labour starting the told us to come in and have a CTG done. This is when they strap 2 elastic belts and sound doppler thingy to your belly and listen to the heart beat of the baby and record his movements. At first it was clear he was having a little sleep as his heart was thudding along but no movements. And then he started to move and his heart rate goes up – and if he actually kicks anything it thuds. I also found that if i poked his foot or bum that he’d wiggle and you could see it recorded on the chart.

The midwives were happy with the result, confirmed that I wasn’t in labour, that the pain is probably him dropping right down to engage putting pressure on my insides and also right on the pelvis itself. For those of you have heard me whinge about my ‘hips’ for the last 20 weeks will know that this is no surprise that this is the diagnosis. So now the doctor, the midwife at the doctor’s surgery, the collection of midwives at the hospital AND Michael are all telling me to go home and take it easy – stop charging around so much etc.  Last Thursday I was told off too. They’re all ganging up on me! So nothing that the hospital can do and we’re all back to waiting for some baby exiting action. Everyone except for the grub is getting impatient…

The baby’s room is now pretty much organised – a photo will be posted soon for those of you who are not able to see the place due to distance or other reasons. We’re pretty happy with it as it doesn’t look like a really over the top baby nursery sickly sweet cutesy pie sort of room. Now we just need the baby!
